Reading with comprehension is probably the most important skill a person
ever learns. When we consider how complex our world has become,
how multitudinous our choices, and the consequences of those choices,
we begin to understand the power of reading. The children of today
will be choosing for our world tomorrow. And are we giving them
the skills to make wise decisions or do we leave it up to Beavis
and Butthead to provide a value system?

Arthur Rackham, a noted British illustrator, knew the importance of developing
good reading habits in children:
|
"Nothing less than the best that can be had, cost what it may
(and it can hardly be cheap,) is good enough for those early impressionable
years when standards are formed for life. Any accepting or choosing
art or literature of a lower standard as good enough for children
is a disastrous and costly mistake."
