Tips & Tricks for Reducing Spam

The Intrex.Net mail server has been configured to minimize the amount of spam received by our customers. It is impossible to filter out all spam messages without also blocking some wanted messages, so some spam may get through. Below are a few steps you can take to reduce and prevent spam.

Do not respond to spam mail

Never respond to a spam email. If it says "click here" or "reply to this email" to be removed, you risk actually adding your email to their list of valid email addresses they can spam. Responding to a spam email will NEVER stop spam, and may increase the amount you receive.

Some companies that you may do online business with (like online stores, banks, credit card companies, etc.) may automatically add you to their mailing list. Reputable companies like these will also give you the option to be removed from their mailing list. In these cases it is okay to follow their directions to be removed, but use your best judgement to determine that the email is really from a company you know and trust.

Keep Your Email Private

Some ways that spammers can obtain your email address is if you use it in newsgroups, in chat rooms, on message boards, link to it from a web page, etc. One option to help prevent your email address from being spammed is to create a junk email address for public use, and use your permanent email address for personal use.

Many Intrex Internet accounts come with a certain number of free mailboxes. You can create one email address to be displayed on web sites or use for online ordering, and create another email to only give to your friends and family. If you are unsure how many mailboxes come with your account, email billing@intrex.net to find out. If necessary you may be able to switch to a new pricing plan, or simply add more mailboxes for only an additional $2.00 per month.

Privacy Policies

If you are asked to provide your email address or other information to a company online, read their privacy policy first. The privacy policy will tell you how they use your information, and if they sell or provide your personal information to other companies.
