If Dial-Up Networking and Remote Access Service is already installed, skip to Adding Intrex.Net to the Phonebook.

Installing Dial-up Networking
Note: You will need your Windows NT diskettes or CD-ROM for the DUN installation. If required, direct the installer to the path where your NT installation files are located.

  1. Double-click My Computer, and then double-click Dial-Up Networking.
  2. You will be prompted with a window explaining what Dial-Up Networking is and how to install it. Click Install.
  3. If you do not have a modem installed, a window asking if you want the RAS setup to invoke the modem installer will appear. Click Yes.
  4. Follow the instructions in the Install New Modem windows to install your modem.
  5. Next you'll see the Add RAS Device window. Choose your modem and click OK.
  6. Next you will see the Remote Access Setup window. Click Continue.
  7. After the remaining files have been copied onto your system, click Restart.

Adding Intrex.Net to the Phonebook

  1. Double-click My Computer, and then double-click Dial-Up Networking.
  2. If this is the first time you've used DUN, you'll see a message that states that your phonebook is empty. Click OK to add a new entry.
    If you've already installed and used DUN, click New to add an entry for your Intrex.Net connection.
  3. Next you'll see the New Phonebook Entry Wizard. Name your new connection Intrex.Net. Click Next.
  4. Select I am calling the Internet. Click Next.
  5. For Phone Number, please choose the dial-up access number that is a local call from your location. Intrex.Net is not responsible for any long distance charges.
  6. Click Next, and then click Finish.

Configuring your Intrex.Net Connection

  1. With the Dial-Up Networking Phonebook still open, select Intrex.Net from the Phonebook entry to dial.
  2. Click More and select Edit entry and modem properties. This will display the Edit Phonebook Entry window with various tabs across the top.
  3. Click the Server tab.

    - Dial-Up server type: should be PPP: Windows NT, Windows 95 Plus, Internet
    - Make sure that PPP LCP Extensions are disabled
    - Under Network protocols, only TCP/IP should be checked

  4. Click the Settings button. This will result in a new window.
  5. Configure the PPP TCP/IP Settings window using the following information:

    - Select Server assigned IP address
    - Select Specify name server addresses
    - Primary DNS: 209.42.192.253
    - Secondary DNS: 209.42.192.252
    - Primary WINS: 0.0.0.0
    - Secondary WINS: 0.0.0.0
    - Use default gateway on remote network should be checked
    - Use IP header compression should not be checked

  6. Click OK.
  7. Next, click the Security tab. Select Accept any authentication, including clear text.
  8. Now select the Basic tab, and click the Configure button. Use modem compression should not be checked.
  9. Click OK, click OK, and then click Close.

Logging in to Intrex.Net

  1. Double-click My Computer, and then double-click Dial-Up Networking.
  2. For Phonebook entry to dial: select Intrex.Net.
  3. Click the Dial button.
  4. For User Name, enter your Intrex.Net username.
    Note: If you are connecting through a Nationwide access number, enter username@intrex.net rather than just your username.
  5. For Password, enter your password.
  6. Do not enter a Domain Name.
  7. Click OK.

You should see a dialing status window that shows the dialing process. Once connected, you should see the Dial-Up networking monitor on the taskbar in the system tray. If you right-click the icon you will see a list of options including one to disconnect. You can now launch your Internet applications and surf the 'net!
